Owners
Country K9 Pet Resort & Spa is family owned and operated and is proud to be serving Winchester, Virginia, Loudoun County Virginia, Martinsburg, West Virginia and Hagerstown, Maryland.
We want to make Country K9 Pet Resort & Spa a clean, warm, loving environment that is more like "Your pet's home away from home." While your pet is in our care, we want you to feel confident that they will be well taken care of. Melissa Stubblefield
Melissa grew up on a small farm in Maryland where her lifelong passion for animals began. She and her family had dogs, cats and horses.
Her father was an animal lover and an avid equestrian who passed his love of animals and horses on to Melissa. As a child, Melissa took care of the many barn cats which resided on the family farm. She also rehabilitated injured animals found on the farm as well as ones her father found during his day working for the phone company. Melissa has an Associate's and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with minors in Mathematics and Psychology and has spent the last 25+ years working in the IT field. Melissa has retired from her IT career and is able to now make loving and caring for animals a second career. |
Tom Stubblefield
Tom grew up in Virginia and spent much of his time on his dad's horse farm where his lifelong passion for animals also began. He and his family had dogs, cats, birds, horses and an iguana.
Tom has an Associate's degree in Data Processing and a Bachelor’s degree in Management and has spent the last 27+ years working in the IT field. Tom maintains his full-time job, chipping in on holidays, busy weekends and on maintenance. With their combined advanced degrees in Computer Science and Management, their 18+ years as consumers of boarding, grooming and training services and Melissa's love of learning, the Stubblefield's are confident that they can provide the best experiences for their clients. They are excellent animal owners and take exceptional care of their dogs and cats and will do the same for their clients. |
All of our Children have Paws
Ask any of our friends and they will tell you we are all about our pets. A few have said they'd like to be reincarnated as one of your dogs. We have more dogs beds in our house than human beds and more dog toys than a pet store!
For the past 28 years,we have always had a menagerie of dogs and cats, the majority being rescues with health issues. We currently have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Zeus is out oldest and is an Eastern German Shepherd and we adopted him from an owner who could no longer care for him. Brody is a German Shepherd that we adopted from Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue. And last but not least is Gandalf and Molly, domestic short hairs that are the Country K9 cats and serve as cat testers for rescue dogs.
Our pets come first and so will yours.

Children Who Have Crossed the Rainbow Bridge
Josie was our American Bulldog mix who we rescued while volunteering with a shelter on vacation and she suffered from a seizure disorder. Klaus was our Western German Shepherd who suffered from Irritable Bowel Disease and could not eat commercial dog food. We adopted him from an owner who could no longer care for him. Capone was our American Staffordshire Terrier who we adopted from one of our clients. Sadie was our Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, German Shepherd mix adopted from the Winchester SPCA.
Our Dream
Our dream has been to retire to someplace warm and tropical and to run an animal shelter/rescue. Every year when we would go on vacation, we would seek out the animal shelter at our destination and take with us supplies that they desperately needed. I'm sure you can image the strange looks we received from security when checking a huge suitcase full of things like dog biscuits, syringes, leashes, collars, dog food, toys, flea prevention, etc.! Some of our destinations had no animal shelter and feral dogs and cats were plentiful. Some of our destinations had meager facilities and accomplished extraordinary things with very little. One destination had no shelter and everything was done through volunteers homes. At this destination, I was lucky enough to participate in the process and rescued our Josie.
When the opportunity to obtain this business presented itself, we jumped at the chance. The facility has so much potential and we want to turn it into something that we and the community can be proud of. In addition to the business of boarding, grooming and training, we want to help the local shelters and rescues in any way we can. Every penny we make is being reinvested back into the facility for repairs and improvements.
